How long have you known about RAAM? How long afterwards did you decide to enter the race? What triggered your decision?

I heard about RAAM a decade ago, while talking with fellow riders. I started talking seriously about this with Jim Kern and Phil Plath in 2003. It was just the right ridiculously enormous challenge to get fired up over.

Athletic history (cycling results & other):

I've completed RAAM four times. Twice in a four man team, twice in a two man. I set records in 2005 and 2006 for four man and two man recumbent teams respectively. I also hold solo recumbent records in Davis Challenge '06 & '07, Furnace Creek 508 '06. I hold one non-recumbent record as being part of the fastest (and slowest) mixed two person California cross state record.
Considering all sports, what were the events or outcomes that most impacted your life in both negative and positive manners?
RAAM 2007, as part of a two person team, I watched my teammate pick himself up from a devastating crash and get back on the bike and continue to race from California to West Virginia. That is true grit by any measure.

Who are your heroes? Why?

Jim Kern and Phil Plath, because they showed me I could, and encouraged me when I needed it most.
What intimidates you most about RAAM?
Solo RAAM still gives me the willies.

Are you supporting an organization or Charity? Tell us why.

 Yes! Challenged Athlete's Foundation
Sports builds confidence and enables injured athletes to feel whole again

Favorite quote, either famous or not, that fuels your ambition:

What are your expectations from RAAM?

This year we will set a new record for four man recumbent RAAM.
