“The World's Toughest Bicycle Race”, the Race Across America, (RAAM), is an ultra-endurance bicycle race which spans the width of the continental U.S.A and attracts cyclists from all over North America, Europe and Australia.

In 2008, we introduced a shorter version of RAAM, called the Race Across the West (RAW). On June TBA, 2013, Noon (PDT) this 850 mile race will be held in conjunction and run simultaneously with RAAM beginning in Oceanside, California and finishing in Durango, Colorado.

With RAW’s unique qualities and challenges it is considered to be the toughest part of the World's Toughest Bicycle Race. One of RAW’s main attractions is accessibility. Only  a relatively small number of racers have the ability and resources to train and compete in RAAM. Most competitors are non-professionals and must balance their careers, families and finances with excruciating and all-consuming training. While no one will be successful in the Race Across the West by underestimating the challenges it presents and the physical toll it will extract from them, it is a more “life-manageable” event. While soloists in RAAM must qualify to become eligible to compete RAW accepts all comers.

Competitors in RAW start at the same time and race the same course as RAAM which provides the excitement and inspiration of competing directly against the world’s elite ultra-endurance cyclists. Last year, 4 time RAAM Champion, Jure Robic of Slovenia beat all competitors in both races to the RAW finish line in Durango, CO.

We have three main race divisions in RAW, solo riders, 2-person and 4-person relay teams which are further defined by age, gender and bike type, (RAW is fixie friendly).

*Race Cutoffs for 2013: Solo Racers 90 hours; Team Racers 66 hours.

**Unofficial finishes will not be recognized.  We would encourage any racer that is able to finish the course, even after the cutoff times. Although, it will still be recorded as a DNF.
