The Spirit of RAAM!

Ann Wooldridge could teach the world a lot. She rode to the city docks in Annapolis, MD last night and was cheered by about 150 supporters from the USA, Brazil, the UK and many other places. Team Can Be Adventures was there with both Daniela Figueiredo Genovesi and Janet Christiansen, who applauded and hugged this bike warrior Ann Wooldridge.

There was a lot of awe and many tears. Ann appeared frail in the least, shy and overcome. In all my years of involvement with RAAM I have never witnessed such a moment. I was alarmed at her state, but with time she spoke, she had a megaphone but was barely audible and a little time later she smiled, she knew she had accomplished something very special.

In RAAM, it is always a thrill to watch the first place finishers cross the line, but a deeper appreciation and understanding comes with the back of the pack. Ann was an official DNF in RAAM, but she still set a transcontinental record for women 50+ and she accomplished so much more than finishing what she set out to do. She inspired millions; she rode the good ride, the toughest race and then some.

To Ann Wooldridge I say thank you for demonstrating what is important and what can be accomplished with true grit, a gigantic heart and an unstoppable spirit.

Ginny told me you would do it, she said nothing short of breaking both legs would stop you. Well done, fantastic accomplishment. Well done to the support crew too.

What an achievement! And such a relief you're OK after the fall. Great photos by the way - you've never looked better, ha ha!

Bring Toby to Spain if you need rest + recuperation ... or when you start training for the next RAAM ...

If I am lucky enough to do this race next year, I hope to have half the courage as you - I'll need it. Truly inspirational.

What a way to finish the event. I'm so proud of Ann. But also all the competitors, team crews, supports her fellow lady riders Daniela and Janet should feel proud that they stayed to give Ann such a warm wellome. This is what it's all about fellow cyclist appreciating cycling achievements.

Ann, we were so happy to see you make it here in the US. Team AFC especially was ecstatic. (I am an unofficial cheerleader for them.) I wish I could have met up with you, buy maybe next year. I would suggest a team approach then as well! Pat Blair of AFC said 4 man team was a blast last year for them! but the 2 man this year was grueling. So I guess that says it all about solo. You have nothing left to prove. Have some fun next year and come back! *S*
