CONGRATULATIONS MICHAEL COOK - 11TH

American Micheal Cook may have been the last rider over the line in the Solo Men Under 50 category, but he still completed the race. He completed it and can be happy.

Not only did he complete it, but he did it within the time limit. Michael arrived in Annapolis at 3:55am. The race across America took him 11 days, 12 hours and 5 minutes. He averaged 10.94mph.

This is what he had to say before the Race:

“I race to fulfill a dream I had growing up. We live in difficult times but I think it is important to challenge ourselves and still have dreams and goals. I want to prove that with a little help from family and friends, we can chase our dreams. I know that racing a bike across the continent isn't going to cure cancer or solve any major problems. It's not even going to make me a better person. But it makes life memorable and the journey exciting. I hope at the end, we'll have a good story to tell.”

Michael rode an excellent race. He had some Achilles problems through Mississippi River but perservered and showed courage and determination to finish this race.

Michael, there are many people who are proud of your efforts. I am one of them. You do have a good story to tell. You finished in the time limit!

Congratulations Michael Cook - Well Done!

To Michael, crew and devoted fans.

Boy, did we learn a lot. I send thanks and would like to congratulate crew and our faithful fans whose vigil and support help keep us focus.

As fellow crewmember, I'm sure the experience of RAAM has expanded all our views on training and perspective toward living life. I know it has of mine. All of us had our reasons for doing this event.

We had a great athlete to support in addition to a generous and thoughtful man who by measure we must look and emulate within ourselves. All efforts to prevail over obstacles no matter how small become life affirming. There was no shortage here how small wins add up to help racer and team cross the finish line.

Truly as in life, this race tests all mind, emotion and matters of integrity. The measure of the man and those supporting Michael is evident even when we could not be our best at all times and for all tasks.

He finished as a 2009 RAAM rookie and this accomplishment will always be remembered. But most important whether a person finishes or not, the mere attempt to finish, to do more than considered common, plus strive no matter the outcome, should be honored with respect along with the hope all involved are returned safely to love ones and home.

All the best. Tailwinds to all,
Bernadette

The solo men and women racing RAAM come from all walks of life, all age groups and represent countries in North and South America, Europe and Africa. The "race of truth" knows no shortcuts - 3,000 miles in a single stage is not for the faint of heart, body or soul.
