WOOLDRIDGE: SHEER GUTS, DETERMINATION & COURAGE

My eyes could not believe it. I had to make sure I wasn't hallucinating. I looked again. I still couldn't believe it. I threw water over my face, I looked, I wasn't dreaming. It was real. I checked! It was true.

Ann Wooldridge is still OFFICIALLY in the race! That's right folks. This 50 year old from the UK is on the verge of something special. Something amazing. This story is big!

After her severe crash, just over 24 hours ago, the story of Ann was gripping. Taken to hospital battered and bruised. She was in despair. She thought her race was over. After she got checked out she was back on the bike. There were doubts that she would make it. She looked like she would struggle. The courage of this woman is unbelievable.

Time Station 34, located at Mississippi River was the time cut off. She had to reach that by 5am today to still be officially in the race. She reached it at 5:04am and to the amazement, she was granted a pass.

Before her crash, Ann was pedaling at a steady rate. Over the four stations before her crash, she was averaging out 11.22mph. That crash has freshened her up. Since then, she has averaged 12.36mph over the next four time stations.

Assessing her current situation, if she keeps at the pace she is doing now, overall of 10.03mph, she will reach Annapolis 7 hours before the deadline. Ann is looking good.

Ann is showing courage and determination. She is riding on despite her crash and injuries. She wants to finish RAAM. She is not a quitter. Ann is showing how much of a special athlete she is. For not giving up. For not giving in. She is fighting. Fighting to the very end.

Great to see you making it over the Mississippi Ann. You had a lot to claw back to stay in the race and managed to do it. All that training in conditions fair and foul is paying off by giving you the physical strength to match your determination. Keep it up!
