Paul Danhaus : Bike Modifications

You are all aware of the strain this race takes on your body. Paul has had some problems with his neck muscles being so fatigued that he can no longer hold his head up with his shoulders.

They have fashioned a time trial handlebar completely vertical with toilet paper and duct tape to hold his chin. The chin rests in... in... well I'm not sure what to call it but its a female absorbing pad of some sort. I believe they are called maxi-pads??? (I am a male, please excuse my lack of knowledge). anyways this pad on top absorbs his sweat and is "incredibly comfortable"

Perhaps another recumbent convert in the making? Clever, but SO unnecessary...

Has anyone tried 2 mirrors positoned on the bike to keep the riders head down and the neck in neutral?

The solo men and women racing RAAM come from all walks of life, all age groups and represent countries in North and South America, Europe and Africa. The "race of truth" knows no shortcuts - 3,000 miles in a single stage is not for the faint of heart, body or soul.
